Work out? Why?

I always find it hard to wrap up a series. This one is about exercise clubs in Las Vegas. But why do people join them?
Junurary is prime time for health clubs when resolutions and self motivation seems easy. Later many give up and pay out there contract never using the facilities. This is gravy for the clubs and relief for me cause I hate the new year crowds. Some do keep coming back and there are a lot of reasons. If you are really out of shape you have a nut to crack. Starting to exercise from couch potato can be daunting if you don't take it slow. A 40 minute treadmill walk three times a week, for a month and using light weights on the machines for another twenty minutes is a real start. If you can do it something really amazing happens. You start to feel better! Food tastes better. And on days you don't exercise you feel like going out and weeding the lawn or something. Pretty soon you meet some other people doing the same thing you are doing and working out becomes not a chore but something to look forward to. You might see the people doing group exercise (aerobics) and want to try that. I did and still do.
To dirgress for a moment, my Dad started using a health club in his fifties and never stopped. He would drop my mom off at a casino to play bingo and pick her up after his workout. They did that several times a week for years. He was a active healthy man till a stroke at 86.
Anyway, the Corp. I work for offered a deal with a local club and I signed up because they were opening a shop near my house. I have never dropped that membership even during times when I didn't use it. (how about 10$ a month for a full featured club) Life always demands to come first so when you work, and other things will effect how you can fit exercise in, but you can find the time. In Las Vegas it's 24/7 for everything including gyms. Before work or after, on days off, somehow the time is there.
But, again, why? Well because it makes you feel good. It keeps your weight down and lowers your blood pressure. It increases the energy you have to do other things and makes you feel better about yourself. It's not that your going to be Adonis, but you won't feel that your following behind your belly.

One more post is coming in this series. Aerobics.
