Health clubs can be intimidating to some so a new alternating has emerged. Curves, It Figures. These are small strip mall places that cater to women (only)who want to work out in a friendly private environment. Read that as ( no men). I can understand it because some women are shy about men looking at them.(and if they keep working out and get in decent shape that will happen)
These places are great. They offer circuit training, strength and aerobics in a controlled program. A thirty minute workout.
It also has that social club aspect. Gloria goes to a "it figures" that is just around the corner and has made many new friends.
But what about us guys? Well the wheels of commerce roll and there is now "The Blitz" a strip mall shop for men only. It is modeled after the ladies places but tuned to the masculine theme of boxing. It has the same kind of hydraulic resistance machines but is set up like a boxing ring with heavy bags (gloves are required). 30 seconds per station, two times around the circuit takes 25 minutes or so and will get your heart rate up. They also have a bench and a rack of weights to use, and (naturally for the boxing thing), jump-ropes. I dig this place, it's just around the corner so I can go whenever I have a few spare minutes. It complements the training I do at a big club and is a lot easier to get too. And I never knew how much fun it is to beat up on one of those heavy bags. The owners of the Blitz near me, John and Vicky, are genuine "People" and that makes a big difference too.
