Ok the next day was not so cool but I stopped by Home Depot and got the lockset and went about finishing the thing. (if your lost read the previous post)
Installing the rest of the things, went ok as I learned to make the pilot holes for the screws bigger. The bar where the strikers are and the header went up ok so there was nothing else to do but put the lock set in the door.
However, the curse of nothing ever works right the first time was still to be dealt with. The lockset was defective, bad threads, and it took another trip to the store and another day to get it finished.
But by golly, it finally came together and tonight a breeze is blowing through the house and it may just possibly be worth all the time and money.
