More death valley

More about our road trip through Death Valley.
After taking some pictures we drove on up the valley . This is an amazing place. The road winds along the eastern side with colored hills to the right and the salt flat on the left. We went by Bad Water, the lowest point in America, where lots of foke were wading out in the water. This place is usually dry but the rain that brought the flowers also made a shallow lake. On up the road a side loop called artists (something or other) was closed, too bad cause the color in the earth is beautiful and it would have been good to get closer to it.
We got to furnace Creek where there is a big $$ resort and a $ ranch and golf course place. There was a museum that wouldn't let Gizmo in and a $$ gift shop, and a restaurant where we had 7$ cheesburgers for lunch. Fred Harvy all the way. Still it was nice to sit on grass in the shade with a beer and burger and watch the people go by.
Looking at the map I saw the salt creek trail? A half mile board walk over a marsh so we set out for it. There was a no pets sign that I ignored so with Gizmo on leash we set out to see the wonders of salt creek. It is not much, a stream through some alkali hills with pupfish. Now the tiny pupfish is a skinny guppy with the political clout of a major industry because they are endangered.
Ok we saw salt creek. I carried Gizmo the last half of the return hike cause he was panting. (what a wimp)
It was getting late so we drove north to Beatty and our reserved accommodations.
Next up Beatty and the phoenix Inn.
