More monorail

Bad news for the monorail company. Federal finance for a extension to down town is not going to happen. They cited low ridership as a reason but we all know it's because of all the problem and delays and shutdowns. It's been a giant money vacuum from the start with no hope of being profitable. Four miles at 650 million dollars or 162 million per mile, seems a bit pricey. The three dollar fare might persuade one to take the bus for a buck, which WILL get you down town or all the way to Henderson.
The regional transportation commission RTC, has been putting some distance between itself and the monorail company since the second shutdown and although they could re-apply for funding in a year but I don't think so. Oscar our famous mayor says he's not surprised and is looking for cheaper alternatives.
The RTC has one in the wings. A light rail line is planned that will run from Henderson down to and along the strip through downtown and out to far North Las Vegas, where the university is going to build another campus. Now that is a surprising (for our local gov) display of intelligence. Imagine, a cheap, conventional train system running through our growing valley. It gives one hope.
Next time I want to write more on transport of the car kind. There is an amazing legal battle over roadwork going on here.
