Below this post is a picture of the fountain in my courtyard. Yes it is in Las Vegas and it is snow. Now this doesn't happen here very often, and rarer still in daylight. It was predicted to rain and get to 50 degrees but the weather man was a bit off. That's not unusual here. The morning was dreary and cold, but I had some things to do and feared not a little rain.
When I stepped outside I saw spots on the walk and thought 'sprinkling' then noticed the tiny white things in the air. Cool! So I went back inside and told Gloria and she said "yea it is" and I said "but it won't stick".
At Home Depot I got some things and outside the flakes were bigger and it seemed colder as I drove off to the gym for aerobics class. Along the way it was getting wetter and and I thought "this is no day to work out" and headed to the library where I had to pick up a movie I had ordered.
Gloria is a "Little house on the priare" Junkie and I found the Christmas special was available for rent and rip. As I sat in the parking lot waiting for them to open the snow flakes got bigger and bigger. It was lovely. Big fat wet snow globs falling and melting on the ground. I was inside for a while, the library is always busy, and when I came out it was colder and the flakes were smaller, and it was accumulating on surfaces. Sticking.
Traffic was slow as I went to another stop, the radio reported that it was 20 degrees and there was a snow warning. Ah yea!
visibility was lously as I started home but I had to do groceries so I pulled in to walmart and it was coming down.
Walmart always takes a while, and the checker is always a little girl who has to get the supervisor to scan your beer, so by the time I got outside it was snowing like crazy. I am not dressed for this but I unload the cart and get in thinking how much fun it would be to do some donuts in the parking lot, and then the truck won't start. Nope. I left the lights on and the battery is weak and it's not gona do nuting.
So I thought about AAA. I'm a member in good standing and I pay for road service, but IT 'S SNOWING IN LAS VEGAS and I know I'll be frozen solid before they get to me. I call Gloria. "I'll come get you baby" she says, and I wait.
Did I say it was cold? Yea now I could have been smart and went inside to wait but I knew we had to jump start the truck and there was an empty space in front so I figured I should keep it reserved. This was heroically illadvised as it was really cold. Have I said how cold it was?
To make a long story short, I found a down vest behind the seat, and kept from freezing, Gloria finally found me, after looking inside the store for me (she is the smart one) we jump started the truck (this is the condensed version) and drove
home.
Gloria told me "It was kinda fun to drive out in the snow".
It took four hours before I felt warm.
Living Las Vegas is mostly like living anywhere but snow is a really rare thing.
