In Vegas the big thing is fireworks. New years and the 4th of July. Grand displays are produced for these dates and this year's end was a truly spectacular event, I am told.
Now I love fireworks. In the little Tennessee town I was born in, fireworks were available year round. There was a little store around the corner from my house, kind of a pre 7-11, just a little shop with some food sundries, and year round they stocked the kind of fireworks that are illegal almost everywhere now. A seven year old kid (me) could buy firecrackers and cherry bombs and M-80's. Tiny explosives that could take off a finger. We'd set them under a tin can and see how high it would fly. I think it was a good thing. We played with dangerous toys but knew they were dangerous and were careful. Get this, we even made gun powder from stratch, mixing the componets and setting off fountians of flame. Our parents did not freak out about this. Today they could be charged with child endangerment.
Reports are that the Strip was fairly cool as far as problume partiers were concerned, and the weather cooperated (there was a worry about wind).
All together a sucessfull new years celabration here in the resourt capital of the USA.
Elsewhere things are not at all happy and I chose to slumber through the whole thing (maybe in some sort of denial )
May next year be happier - Adaven
